About the ECCN and the HTSUS
The ECCN is a five-digit alphanumeric character classification system used to determine U.S. export licensing requirements. The ECCN represents a specific commodity defined in the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (formerly the Bureau of Export Administration). THE HTSUS is a 10-digit code assigned to all commodities exported from the United States. The U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of Census uses this code to calculate U.S. trade statistics, and U.S. Customs uses it to assess duties and tariffs.
